Alumni Spotlight: David Wilder aka Analogue Thoughts, a Journey Through Sound Academy

David Wilder’s path to professional audio engineering wasn’t a straight one. After a car accident left him unable to pursue music due to medical complications, he was searching for a way to reignite his passion. That’s when Sound Academy came into the picture. “It came up as an Instagram post,” David recalls. “I looked into the program and saw it was French and had just started in New York. I got a call from Dante, who gave me all the information. After two months of thinking it through, I decided to make the commitment.”

The Sound Academy Experience

David’s experience at Sound Academy was transformative. The learning environment, guided by expert instructors, encouraged collaboration and personal growth. “On the first day, we didn’t know each other, but Lucho had us introduce ourselves. Eventually, we started sharing music and gained respect for each other's sound. Lucho encouraged us to start recording, and before we knew it, we were making music together.”

As a music producer, David had always focused on beats and production, but Sound Academy provided an opportunity to build real artist connections. “Being in school didn’t allow for that artist-to-artist connection before, but at Sound Academy, hearing each other's sound allowed us to collaborate organically.” Our non traditional education style is designed for artists to open up and connect with like minded people, David took advantage of this set up perfectly.

One of the most exciting aspects of the course was the hands-on experience with professional audio gear. “It’s not every day you get into a studio with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, and someone is allowing you to touch it all and learn how to use it. Getting to record live music and work with hardware was incredible. When you’re used to working on just a laptop, it can be daunting.”

Sound Academy Administration

David credits Dante and Finn for their guidance throughout his journey. “Dante and Finn are godsent. They really helped me through the process of going through the course.” Now, David is taking his skills beyond the classroom, actively searching for a studio home where he can intern and learn under experienced engineers and producers in New York City.

"I do really appreciate the opportunity that Sound Academy has given us. Most studios only take five to ten people for internship opportunities. Every two months there's an opportunity for six to eight people to go into Quad Studios and learn in a studio, that is something that you can't replicate."

What's Next for David?

Currently, David is finishing a new project with a gospel artist and preparing to release an EP with Tyree and Anthony, recorded at Quad Studios during the course. His journey with Sound Academy has paved the way for exciting collaborations and future opportunities.

Sound Academy provided David Wilder with the knowledge, experience, and network to elevate his music career. His story is a testament to the power of education, mentorship, and hands-on training in the world of audio engineering.
