Alumni Spotlight: Tyree Campbell aka Ty Finesse

From Turning Passion to Professional Growth with Sound Academy

At Sound Academy, we pride ourselves on providing students with the hands-on experience and industry connections they need to succeed in audio engineering. Tyree Campbell, also known as Ty Finesse, came to Sound Academy with a passion for music and a desire to refine his skills—not just for himself, but for his team. His journey through the program was nothing short of amazing, and he left with newfound confidence, technical expertise, and valuable connections.

Finding the Right Program

Tyree discovered Sound Academy through Instagram after a friend sent him the opportunity. “I was looking around for a program or school and I came across it on Instagram, and my friend sent it to me. I was happy to try it.” Tyree saw an opportunity for growth in his audio engineering skills and jumped at the opportunity. This is the mentality we look for in our students. With three to four years of experience in music and a team of artists and engineers and artists around him, Tyree saw Sound Academy as the perfect opportunity to level up. “I wanted to get to the point where I can help the people around me and network. I met a lot of good people at Sound Academy, people I want to stay in contact with.” Which was exactly what he was told on prior to the course and it lived up to expectations.

“On the first day, I was a little skeptical if it was real. Once I got to Quad, there was real excitement because I was really doing this, in a studio-studio. Usually, I’m an artist, but I was getting hands-on experience, which was great.”

Mastering Pro Tools & Hands-On Recording

Before Sound Academy, Tyree had never used Pro Tools, but by the end of the program, he felt confident using it. “I never used Pro Tools, and after doing this class, I understand Pro Tools OD. The more I practice, the better I get.” Getting the opportunity to record and mix live vocals was another highlight as it was something he had experience with and was able to learn how to do it even better. “When I got to sit there and record people, it was so much fun because it’s what I usually do. Especially when we got to mix vocals and live music—that was great.”

Supportive Learning Environment

Tyree credits the strong relationships between students and instructors for making the experience even more impactful. As everyone in his class along with the instructor had a valuable connection. Our courses are designed for you to be comfortable and network within the environment of the studio. “From day one, we all had a connection. There was a solid class—no bad energy. We all helped each other, and Lucho broke down everything so effortlessly, step by step each day. If we needed help, he did not hesitate to help. The guys at Quad are even supporting me in work in a studio as well which is so great.”

Next Steps: Building a Career in Music

Since completing the program, Tyree is focused on employment in a studio and growing his brand, Top Finesse Movement—a collective of artists, engineers, and videographers supporting each other. “My main mission is employment in a studio and working on my music. The guys at Quad are assisting my employment search, while I continue helping my Top Finesse Movement. I will use what I learned to help build the brand and a career.” Tyree will use all the skills gained throughout the course to continue the movement and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

Advice to Future Students

Tyree encourages future students to go all in on opportunities like Sound Academy.

“Whatever dream you believe in, take it to the fullest. Any opportunity you get like this, take it and put your mind to it.”
